Paul's Boutique

Almost as big a touristy cliche as the Physical Graffiti tenement building, this particular spot is the original location of the album cover of Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. At the time of that shot (1989), this neighborhood was still a bit on the squalid side. Since then, not only is the whole neighborhood a lot nicer, but the shop in question (formerly a run down junk shop...though it wasn't ever called Paul's Boutique, that was the B-Boys' doing) is now a hepcat bisto called.....WAIT FOR IT....Paul's Boutique. I felt like a jackass tourist taking this picture.
