190 Bowery
the Bowery
Not sure about the story of this building. Like its ominous twin a block to the west on Elizabeth street, 190 Bowery has an imposing edifice, but shows no signs of life or residency. Its walls are slathered with street art. VH1 suggested that Blondie spent their formative years communing here, but a conflicting account found keyboardist Jimmy Destri suggesting it was a building up the block. This particular doorway was used in the film adaptation of Jim Carroll's "Basketball Diaries" as the scene of a botched mugging.
