In the latest episode of "Broken Record," Rick Rubin speaks with greatest living American, Iggy Pop. Regardless of what you think of Rick, it's a really great discussion. Find it here.
My favorite bit of trivia revealed therein: This song was originally titled "Down on the Beach," until Ig & the Ashetons visited NYC and walked down West 8th Street "between University Place and 6th Avenue" when it was "more active" (circa 1970), and were captivated by what they encountered. Love that a little chunk of my backyard (not *nearly* as "active" as it used to be, alas) inspired the greatest rock album of all goddamn time (fight me).
Crank it.
