Oh Good lord.
The once-arguably-respectable periodical that is Rolling Stone just published a strenuously dubious list of what they consider "The Best Concept Albums of All Time" (suffice to say, I have a full skeleton's amount of bones to pick with said roster), but in the process, they cite Kid A by Radiohead (which they rank at No. 14) and link to my now-ancient entry about pop-culture writer Chuck Klosterman's not-entirely-serious theory that said ominous opus predicted the events of September 11, 2001. Oh, exasperation.
In the 17 years since I first posted that entry, it has become -- as I've alluded before -- the most-clicked piece on this silly blog, routinely cited on countless discussion boards, Radiohead fan site and in otherwise legitimate outlets like Cracked, Noisey and Pitchfork, and invited no small amount of incredulous invective from all conceivable sides of the argument.
Under normal circumstances, I'm practically giddy for the exposure, but in this particular instance, while I'm not going to recant the post or take it down, I feel obligated to once again point that while, yes, I was initially intrigued and amused by Chuck's theory, I in absolutely no way genuinely espouse it, nor do I honestly care about it one way or the other.
I'm sure Chuck and Radiohead alike are also quite bored with discussing it.
Thanks.
