Also notable for the Peugeot 504 in the shot. The French brand was virtually invisible and states except for New York City. At one point in the 70s or early 80s, the brand, in an effort to make it’s mark here, had a fleet of diesel 504 taxi cabs running around the city and took full advantage of it in their advertising. Remember the Peugeot sign just outside the city in New Jersey? Just a few years after this photo, the brand would make its official withdrawal from the U.S. market. I had a Peugeot 505 wagon for years, and whenever I would see another Peugeot of any stripe in New York City traffic we would wave like long lost friends.
