Initially, I wasn't entirely convinced Trump's claim that he'd tested positive for COVID-19 was legit. Without credible corroboration, I wasn't inclined to rely solely on the veracity of his Tweet, as those haven't always been so reliable, let's remember. Was it a ploy? Was it a shallow PR stunt to distract from the deluge of disparaging news about him, his taxes, the tape of his wife's comments, his awful performance at the debate? Was it a means of demonstrating how tough and strong he is? Was it a maneuver to try to postpone the election? It is awfully convenient that it has completely overtaken the news cycle. There are no other stories being reported, at the moment.
There's now a slew of conflicting information out there, but consensus suggests that his infection is indeed genuine. Despite what some may think, I don't want him to die from COVID-19. Personally, I'd much prefer that he ends up playing out his days languishing in a maximum-security prison.
Who knows what happens next, but while I take no joy in the news of his infection, I offer no empathy, either. If he has indeed contracted the disease, he invariably did so by being pig-headed, willfully ignorant and irresponsible. And given his long history of downplaying, denying and making unrealistic predictions about the pandemic -- while 200,000 plus American lives have paid the ultimate price -- I have absolutely no sympathy for the man.
We'll see.
