Gildersleeves was a good place to see shows... I saw a lot of those hardcore shows you mentioned. Saw the Misfits there (Earth A.D. era, w/Robo on drums), Scream, Iron Cross, Suicidal Tendencies, CH3... saw Even Worse there, the later version w/out RB, with Tim Sommer and Thurston Moore. Probably more I'm forgetting.

I also have a vague memory of bits of old wallpaper showing up in the balcony, like a gold metallic background with a velvet pattern on it, and being told that it was remnants of the venue's past life as a burlesque house. It didn't have a real strong personality of its own, like CBs did, I remember it more for the bands and the times.

The Reggae Lounge... wasn't that just below Canal St.??
