There's an awful lot of new music out there. Too frequently, that descriptor -- awful -- applies not only to the quantity, but crucially the quality. Suffice to say, there is more than enough mush-mouthed mumble-rap and overwrought R&B drivel out there already -– please stop making more of it. Every now and again, however, something rolls down the pike that I actually kinda dig.
This is the Brooklyn-via-California band Mainland. This isn’t their most recent clip, but for what will soon be obvious reasons, I chose this track to showcase their promise. Shot in 2014, “Leave the Lights On” features Mainland lead singer Justin Topf skateboarding around New York City.
