Excuse me a moment while I evangelize this urgent announcement...
Dear friend,
If you care about the University Place, Broadway, 3rd and 4th Avenues in the Village, and all the blocks in between, now is the time to act.
We are seeing an explosion of oversized developments, many of them hotels or office buildings, in this area.
The Mayor has so far refused to do anything to stop it, blocking our rezoning proposal for the area.
Now he wants to accelerate the trend with a “Tech Hub” on 14th Street meant to anchor a “Silicon Alley” stretching from Union Square to Astor Place. This will only accelerate this troubling trend.
But there is something we can now do about it.
The Mayor’s 14th Street ‘Tech Hub’ plan requires City Council approval. We can and MUST insist that the City Council not approve the Tech Hub UNLESS these blocks to the south get the zoning protections they need.
Write the Mayor and other City officials here. Write local elected officials to urge them to demand these zoning protections here.
Find out more, including which sites are to be developed, here and here.
Spread the word! It’s truly NOW OR NEVER for protecting these blocks.
Sincerely,
Andrew Berman Executive Director Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation 232 East 11th Street, New York, NY 10003 T: (212) 475-9585 x38 | [email protected] www.gvshp.org
