I cited Kate Bush’s “And Let Me Dream of Sheep” in my Favorite Music round-up, but my little Charlotte bought me Before the Dawn for Christmas, and it’s swiftly become a hefty contender for my favorite album of the year.
So much more than simply “a live album,” there are myriad moments throughout that are nothing short of breathtaking. You can completely feel the audience that’s been waiting 35 years to hear her sing live onstage again collectively gasp as certain pieces unfurl themselves. By the time you reach the reprise of “Cloudbusting” -– when the entirety of the Hammersmith Apollo sings along rapturously as one -– tears should be streaming down your cheeks.
It’s exquisite.
