This felt like a crazy long week. Between events in the news and a busy cycle at work, it felt like a long, difficult slog, but congrats … we got through it.
I noticed that today is also the birthday of the late Adam “MCA” Yauch of Flaming Pablum favorites, The Beastie Boys, who prematurely passed away in 2012. As such, I thought I’d exhume this great clip someone put together in homage, featuring one of his stand-out tracks on the groundbreaking Paul’s Boutique (which is an album you should own … go get it).
I can’t vouch for the 100% accuracy of the lyrics presented in this clip, but I love the detailed examination of the album’s signature cover art, featuring a wide-angled shot of the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington circa 1989. Suffice to say, these corners look nothing like that album cover today.
The early shot of the youthful MCA at the top came from some street art I spotted on Ludlow earlier this year. I have no idea if it's still there.
Pour one out for Adam, crank this up and have a relaxing weekend.
