Here’s another hastily pieced together post. You’re welcome.
Earlier today, I stumbled upon a great article by erstwhile Fleshtones bassist Robert Burke Warren wherein he recounted his audition to fill the sizable void when Dee Dee left the Ramones (a spot ultimately filled by C.J. Ramone). It’s a great anecdote that you should totally check out.
In clicking around, I think found another piece by Warren (cribbed from his own blog) about his days hanging out at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in the heart of the East Village (a great, storied spot which I fleetingly mentioned on this post). You should check that out as well.
Warren’s former band, The Fleshtones (who, you might recall, I wrote about here) were from Queens, which was also the home of the Ramones, which explains the following clip…
Today, The Fleshtones are still at it, I believe. I ran into lead singer Peter Zaremba at Whole Foods Wines last year, and he was so goddamn charming my wife wanted to invite him home for dinner. Robert Burke Warren is now an author, teacher and songwriter. And King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut – which had been A7 -- is now Niagara. I took the shot below of the interior just before Christmas.
