Here’s a bizarre one. Below is clip from an oddball 1979 exploitation flick called “Nocturna,” which is — I gather — essentially about a female vampire running amok in Manhattan ala George Hamilton in “Love at First Bite,” except nowhere near as coherent or funny.
In any case, in this clip, actress Nai Bonnett (the “Nocturna” in question, one assumes) starts off on the Upper West Side (specifically the sailors’ memorial on Riverside Drive), and then hails a cab to Times Square, all scored to a tune by disco diva Vicki Sue Robinson (of “Turn the Beat Around” fame) called “Nighttime Fantasy."
It basically plays like a music video, presumably intended to showcase the glitz and glamor of New York City, but all it seems to do is show stacks of trash, porn theaters, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Florsheim Shoes.
About halfway through, she is unsurprisingly accosted by some cat-callers, who she giggly engages with while swanning down what looks like 7th Avenue.
It’s all very weird, but it was the disco era, let’s remember. Read more about "Nocturna" here.
