I've spoken about Amos Poe's "The Foreigner" a couple of times here (notably thanks to Nick Rombes' excellent "Cultural Dictionary of Punk"), but while waiting for my daughter to get changed for a birthday party later this afternoon, I stumbled upon this immaculate-looking clip from the film.
For those who've heard about the notoriously decrepit bathrooms at CBGB, here's a glimpse at them back when they were comparatively squeaky clean (albeit still dodgy).
In this celebrated scene, Max the protagonist staggers through CBGB on his way to the lavatory. En route, he gets into a scuffle with none other than Bryan Gregory of the Cramps and his sister (the band's drummer prior to the preternaturally cool Nick Knox). After that fracas, Max repairs to the bathroom....only to be met by the rest of the band on his way out.
This all transpires while an outfit called The Erasers performs.
The funny thing about this is that the Cramps always struck me as remarkably affable folks. Go figure.
