A friend of mine posted this on Facebook this morning, and I was so utterly flummoxed by it, that I feel obligated to pass it on.
I don’t know who Gerty Molzen was, but I gather she was a German actress of some renown. Five years before the great lady's death in 1990 at the age of 84, someone convinced her to pursue a sideline singing cover versions of popular tunes — although, honestly, they’re more like clipped, Teutonic recitations.
I'm not quite sure why "Walk on the Wild Side," Lou Reed's hallowed hymn about transgression and reinvention, seemed like a good fit, but here we are. And who the gentleman accompanying her with the entirely incongruous rap is, I have absolutely no idea.
It must be heard to be believed.
I'm curious how Lou reacted.
This also seems like a handy excuse to exhume the tastefully shot Honda Scooter ad from around the same era as Gerty's cover. Don’t settle for walkin’.
