Good luck with the run, Alex! But if knees continue to be an issue, do consider biking. You get much of the same delightful feeling of freedom and can cover a lot more distance without injuring yourself further.

I spent about four decades biking in New York City. I grew up doing it (before we had the stupid bike lanes). About three years ago, I finally packed my trusty Trek 820 out to my mom's place in Long Island (where I now ride it). I just saw too many ridiculous accidents here in the city. It's not worth it to me. Between bike-lane entitlement and the plague of CitiBikes (don't EVEN get me started), I've completely lost my taste for biking in my home town.
