I wrote a little rumination about the video for “Waiting on a Friend” by ye olde Rolling Stones back in 2012, but there’s one little thing that’s always bugged me. Here goes…
The photo below originally appeared in an October 1985 issue of SPIN, photographed by one David Gahr. Even a passive fan can spot that that’s ol’ Keith Richards, strolling manfully down a street in the East Village, almost certainly snapped on the same day as the video shoot for “Waiting on a Friend.” Great, fine, we can probably all agree on that.
With that in mind, maybe we can assume that he’s en route to go meet Mick and Peter Tosh on the fabled Physical Graffiti stoop. Fine.
But, I’ll say this … that particular plot of real estate he’s striding upon doesn’t seem to match up to the topography of St. Marks Place.
So … where is he?
Ready, steady….GO!
