The promo copy for it reads a bit like the intro to “The Blair Witch Project”…
On January 24, 1998 a building was demolished on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, at 172 Stanton Street. Miraculously a bag of video tapes was rescued from the demotion. This is an excerpt of the film saved on that day.
The 9999 Arts Group presents Video of the 1980’s with a live musical score.
Basically, an organization called the 9999 Arts Group got ahold of this footage and have pieced it together as a feature-length presentation. That sounds pretty good, right?
What follows in the (very brief) trailer is some live footage from some metal band, an Iggy Pop performance, some fleeting footage of a Washington D.C. funk-metal band called Lucy Brown playing in Tompkins Square at 00:35 (I remember seeing them open for someone -- they were terrible, if memory serves), and then some random shots from around the East Village.
Honestly speaking, to my eyes, this stuff looks more like footage from the 90’s, but maybe that’s just me. I know Lucy Brown weren’t a going concern until the late 80’s at the earliest, if that tells you anything. Also, Iggy’s hair was shorter/choppier in the 80’ s than in this clip.
But, y’know…whatever. Check it out below and find out more here by clicking here.
