it's funny that you could say "the long-standing El Cantinero" that place is lessthan 3 years old!!!! maybe 5... the Stand SUCKED, and honestly i like Chipotle ;-) crazy 3 mexican places within yards of each other.

Hate to differ with ya Glen, but El Cantinero has been there for at least 18 years. When I moved to 12th street in 1996, it was indeed there. You can see it in the photo at the top of this post. I took this shortly after moving there.

Tortaria on the corner is brand new (formerly a not-especially-great Italian place). Dorado, ironically, used to be the Big Enchilada (cheap Mexican) before turning into a failed high-end sandwich shop (I forget the name) before turning into Dorado.

Agreed, Stand was never good.

I'd be lying if I said I've never at Chipotle, but I just don't understand its placement here.

but it is kinda crazy, there is a Chipotle as you say on the north side of union square and one just down on 8th street, but ALSO one on 13th and 6th and 14th and 4th, so actually this (not including the ones on b'way by houston or st. marks btw. 2nd and 3rd) this will be 5 within a quarter mile of each other! starbucks burritos!
