Here’s a really quick one.
The Rumpus, which is a cool blog you should be regularly reading, has started a series of profiles called Sense of Place, wherein various notables wax rhapsodic about places that have (or had) significance for them. Here’s Mike Doughty (ex Soul Coughing) talking about working the door in the early 90's at the old, East Houston incarnation of the Knitting Factory (see above, now called Botanica). Thanks to the ever-excellent Gregoire Alessandrini for that shot.
Elsewhere in the series, Christopher Beha talks about Washington Square Park, Amy Lawless talks about Casa Magazines on 8th Avenue, Stephanie Ann Whited talks about Grace Church, Tao Lin talks about the NYU Library and Kurt Anderson talks about The Green Room (his home office in Brooklyn … yawn). Check'em all out here.
