Ah ha! I'll hold off until this mystery is solved before I challenge you with another one. I'm thinkin' Lou Reed may be your next opponent...

One thought...could "...IRE S.C." stand for something Fire Soccer Club?

Doesn't look like there's room for "room," would guess it's Gramercy Gym. Quick search turns up a 1971 Village Voice reference to such an establishment:

"the gym is housed in a loft on 14th Street, up two flights of creaky wooden stairs"

http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1299&dat=19710513&id=InpIAAAAIBAJ&sjid=H4wDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6524,3048980

And this has it at 116 East 14th, http://gvshp.org/blog/2012/01/11/a-boxing-legends-memory-lives-on-14th-street-2/

Turns out it's the reason that that stretch of East 14th is also called Cus D’Amato Way. But sadly, the original building is long gone.

I found the Gym too. I wonder if it was in the cast iron building with the pool hall? Is the site now one of the NYU student ghettos? What a blast looking through that 1971 Voice though! Jill Johnson, Vito Acconci.

Holy crap. Nice work, folks!! :)

I was just going through a box of old R&R articles tonight and just posted another DJ photo from this David Gahr shoot that was used in Rolling Stone’s review of the 1978 David Johansen album. Just search @dwm58 on Twitter for the photo. Shows alot more of the building he’s standing in front of.
