I stumbled upon this great set of pictures on Flickr via Tumblr shot by one M. Joedicke that refreshingly paint a different picture of New York City than one usually encounters. Fixated by what some might have considered insignificant or banal details like signage, random storefronts or workaday city vehicles, these photos provide a vivid glimpse into another era (in this case, 1979). I picked out the photo above as I believe it's the same sign that I remember regularly spotting from the TriBorough Bridge (now the ROBERT F. Kennedy-Triborogh Bridge) from the backseat of the family car during drives to and from Long Island in my youth. Sometimes, it's minute little details like same that bring back the most memories.
