I'm still only about halfway through Keith Richards' "Life," but I continue to heartily enjoy it. In any event, a co-worker forwarded this onto to me today, and even if you're only a passive fan of the `Stones, it's well worth checking out. Herein, the band's forbidding classic of encroaching cataclysm, "Gimme Shelter," gets sonically deconstructed to reveal some truly remarkable individual performances arguably obfuscated by the song's sprawling gestalt. The isolated audio track of Merry Clayton's contribution alone is worth a close listen. Legend has it that Clayton sang this part so forcefully that she actually caused herself to miscarry, or so I've heard tell (only further adding to this anthem's gloomy mystique).
Crank it up.
