I received an interesting little note earlier this week from a reader named Chris who wanted to hip me to a new iPhone application he'd created called Docent NYC. In a nutshell, Docent NYC acts as a GPS guide to culturally-historic locales around downtown Manhattan. Here, Chris explains…
I was inspired to make it after reading "Low Life" by Luc Sante while staying in a historic building in the West Village and finding myself forgetting what NYC was like before places like Superdive came along. My hope is that someone shopping in SoHo might read about Gordon Matta-Clark, or discover La Monte Young, and be inspired to do something interesting.
Sounds pretty promising, right? Well, if you're hungry to learn more, here's the app's direct link to iTunes and here's its 'very basic' official website. Go check it out.
