Here's a weird one. Remember that giant iguana that sat perched on the roof of the (now long defunct) Lone Star Café on the corner of 13th & Fifth for a million years? In case you don't, I took the above photo of same back in 1985. Well, after a spell inexplicably perched on Pier 25 (across from N.Moore street) in the 1990s, the giant lizard seemingly went into hiding. Now, evidently, it has become the property of the Fort Worth Zoo down in Texas. Go figure.

I really enjoyed seeing your picture of the iguana. At some point, the stodgy Fifth Avenue Association complained about the iguana and it was pulled out of view and eventually removed. Now the entire building has been demolished.

Oh, don't I know it (I live in the neighborhood).

Hi Alex,
I'm writing The Encyclopedia Of Jerry Garcia Music Venues. I'm interested in using this photo. I'd need it at least 1mb or larger. Please email me at [email protected]
Thank you

I remember that building. It was a Schraft's restaurant for years, and I'm not sure when the Schraft's chain went out of business. I went there in 1997, it had become a cheap bodega/deli and they tried to turn the upstairs area into a lounge, but they couldn't get the license to serve alcohol. By 2010 the place was derelict.
