This ought to make for a nice companion post to that earlier post. Here, check out photographer aquaman6's collection of shots of downtown Manhattan, the East Village and Coney Island from the 1980s. Included come some memory-jogging shots of long-since vanished locales like Downtown Beirut, the Lone Star Café (replete with giant, rooftop iguana) and the St. Mark's Cinema. A distant reminder of the East Village's distant punk rock past, you can see an old Rock Hotel flyer for a D.O.A. show posted on a stop-light box. Great stuff.

Nice post. I recall one night at Downtown Beirut with teeth flying like Chicklets gum as I got out of that skinhead hellhole with my teeth intact. Whew, never again...

i used to go there for the one dollar mugs of beer...there was an older guy with a boombox that used to hang out there..anyone remember his name? and it wasn't Ike the Dike, he hung out at the Aztec..formerly the Park Inn..ahh memories
