Spotted this on EV Grieve this morning and thought I'd share it. Today is the anniversary of the U.S. release of London Calling by The Clash, which hit the racks in 1980. I remember buying my vinyl copy of it at the Disc-O-Mat on Lexington Avenue between 57th & 58th streets in Manhattan. Thirty years (!!!) later, The Clash are long over, Joe Strummer is dead, The Palladium on East 14th where the iconic cover shot of Paul Simonon was snapped is now an NYU dorm and that Disc-O-Mat is now a Payless shoe store. Anyway, go crank it up.

There's a print of the original photo, and lot's of other great Rock photos I bet you would enjoy at the Brooklyn Museum's "Who Shot Rock n' Roll" exhibition. http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/rock_and_roll/
If you haven't already checked it out.

definitely one of the greatest albums ever, by one of the most under appreciated bands.

The show in Brooklyn is pretty cool, not great, but if you've never been to the Brooklyn museum it's worth a nice vist (and one of my classic fugazi shots is up)
Anyway i want to chime in, I was at the show this cover was shot at, it was incredible indeed, and NOTHING like the overrated album this photo ended up on. Some good songs perhaps on the LP, but c'mon, it has NOTHING on their first LP, and certainly not in any top 200 list i would ever be forced to make... this album is corny, face it!
peacE.
