Via a random Google search, I stumbled across a truly stirring collection of Manhattan pics from the 70s. You'll hardly recognize the streets depicted therein. To see them, scroll down from here. Enjoy!

I found that thread of photos about a month ago, and have since spent whole afternoons at work scrolling through them. The interesting thing is that they're much closer to the NYC in my head than the reality we live with. It's incredible to see what's changed (and what hasn't). It makes me want to go out and wander the streets, searching for a glimpse of the city that was.

Very nice, it's always amazing that just a few decades and the city was a different place than what it is now.

GatDaymn, this is great. My grandmother lived in Bay Ridge until I was 8, in 1980. I definitely remember walking around The Deuce in daylight and holding my mom's hand a little tighter.
