It's not in a neck of the woods that I get to very often, but I've always loved The Cathedral of St. John the Divine up on the way Upper West Side. I believe I first ventured into its vast interior for one of its fabled "Procession of Ghouls" events one Halloween night in the early 90's. The place itself was scarily austere enough, but to have the massive church come alive with visions of the seasonally macabre was just a bizarre (and highly recommended) experience. I look forward to taking my own kids one day.
In any case, I've long harbored a fascination with the place, and shot many a photograph of it over the years (the above shot was taken one snowy afternoon in the mid-90s). Imagine my intrigue, then when I stumbled upon this article in The Vigilant Citizen, listing the cathedral in its series of "sinister sites." I first started perusing the Citizen after finding its fairly convincing indictment of Lady Gaga as a puppet of the Illuminati. I'm not a big conspiracy theorist, but I love stuff like this. In any case, I was most blown away -- pardon the pun -- by the two images of the "apocalyptic pillar," creepily portraying the catastrophic demise of Manhattan.
Weird, right?
