Based on a hot tip posted over on EV Grieve, I walked over to the IFC Center this evening to check out Eileen Yaghoobian's "Died Young Stayed Pretty," a new documentary about the phenomenon of rock poster art. Certainly not your average rock doc, "Died Young..." concentrates less on the indie music scene its subjects cater to and more on the oft-troubled mindsets of the average gig poster artist (prone to ruminations both profound and absurd). While the film itself is somewhat disjointed and only tenuously linear (shaky cameras and barely audible interview segments don't help), there are some provocative moments therein. Being a longtime fan of flyers and rock posters, I managed to overlook the film's quirks and found it quite compelling. Find out more by clicking right here. And if you're a fan of poster art, definitely be sure to check out gigposters.com. Enjoy.
