We had a light bulb burn out in one of our lamps earlier this week. This being no ordinary lamp, I had no luck replacing the specialty bulb (a circular, three-way touch 120v job, which is evidently a rarified object on par with the Holy Grail) in any of the conventional places. As such, I figured that it was high time that I hit the Bowery. I momentarily paused, however. While many may think the Bowery is just synonymous with flop houses, the avenue in question used to be quite handy for its concentration of restaurant-gear outlets and lighting fixture emporiums. With news that some of the more celebrated spots of the former had recently closed up shop, I was concerned that the same fate may have befallen the latter. The Bowery, after all, is going through the type of radical cosmetic surgery normally reserved for Madonna.
I was relieved to find the strip of lighting stores still in place (although none of the few I visited could help me out, alas). In any event, despite the fact that I find the Bowery's "new look" rather depressing, I brought my camera along. Herewith some of the pics I took on my errand (not all of them are from the Bowery). I'm very happy to see the street art still out there. Enjoy.
I wish I'd captured a better shot of this, but I'm still gun-shy when it comes to just taking pictures of people on the street. In any case, on the corner of Bowery & Houston, I encountered a pair of ridiculously high-haired mohicans in leather and bondage trousers ... pushing a pricey double-wide stroller. Procreating Punks!
