RELEASE DATE: 1993
Ever hear a song and think out loud: "Holy Crap, does that guy ever have my number!" Well, that's certainly the case here. "One By One" by Gutterball (featuring Bryan Harvey and Johnny Hott from House of Freaks, along with Bob Rupe from the proto-Alt.Country band, The Silos, Stephen McCarthy from The Long Ryders and ex-Dream Syndicate vocalist/songwriger, Steve Wynn), spins a yarn about a slovenly journalist down on his luck on the big bad streets of New York City, which might help explain why it appeals to me so much.
This came from their eponymous debut album in 1993. They made a couple of other albums that basically went nowhere and then called it quits. Steve Wynn continues a damn fine solo career today. Tragically, Bryan Harvey was murdered in 2006 during a botched break-in.
