For Christmas this year, one of the presents my mother gave to my daughter, Charlotte, was this elaborate play-set called "The Sesame Street Cinderella Story." It's filled with colorful pages and felt adhesive figures of Jim Henson's beloved muppets resplendent in medieval garb, but I was somewhat stricken by a few of of the images. Now, granted, I'm a cynical forty year old with an arguably damaged psyche, but I was genuinely shocked to find multiple depictions of Oscar The Grouch -- an endearingly disagreeable character whose penchant for snark and sarcasm went unparalleled in the realm of children's television -- displayed in full-blown drag, as if from some Saturday morning adaptation of "Paris Is Burning."
What would Mr. Hooper say?
