I was having a "political discussion" with my mother yesterday (never a good idea), and I kept coming back to the notion that this particular presidential race is somewhat devoid of inspiration. I've said it before, but as I look on both sides of the fence, I can't help asking: "Is this really the best we can do?" There are no bona fide statesmen in the running. Sure, I applaud various attributes of some of the candidates, but each seems to be saddled with one tragic flaw or another that will almost guarantee that they fall short of the mark. Maybe that's always the way it is, admittedly, but it seems rather pronounced this time around.
For example, I like Hillary. But there are huge, vehement swathes of this nation that seem to hate the very ground she walks on, regardless of what she has to say. Should she attain the White House (I wouldn't put my money on it, sadly), I think the divide between Left and Right would become more of a perilous chasm than it already is.
There are those, of course, who want to ensure that said divisive chasm remains impenetrably wide, via whatever stupid, classless and embarrassing means available to them. Enter Roger Stone, whose latest attack campaign surely blazes a bold new frontier in bad taste by being skeezy, juvenile, slanderous, ugly and misogynistic. Yeah,...ummm...Right On!
