I originally composed the following blurb for the latest issue of The New Yorker (for whom I've been scribbling since about 2001), but it evidently got lost in the shuffle. As such, let me strenuously extoll the merits of this function and urge one and all to attend. At the very least, please come if only for the purposes of potentially fouling my chances of wining the new AC/DC video box set in the raffle.
The Delancy (168 Delancy Street)
Wed, December 5th 8-12pm
A clutch of local acts convene to celebrate the release of "The Family Records Holiday," a benefit compilation for Dave Eggers' youth literacy program, 826NYC. Watch as Wakey! Wakey!, Jeff Jacobs, The Flying Machines, Benjamin Wagner, Chris Abad and others tackle age-old holiday favorites as well as a rousing and endearingly unironic collective rendition of Band Aid's classic, "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
