TITLE: "Main Title"
ARTIST: David Shire
ALBUM: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three"
RELEASE DATE: 1998
The first time I saw X at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio in 1985, their intro tape (i.e. the music that played as the band assumed the stage) was Monty Norman's signature James Bond theme. I remember thinking that said choice was entirely cool. Metallica used to enter to the strains of Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold." The Smiths used Prokofiev's lurching "Romeo & Juliet." Siouxsie & the Banshees used a portion of "The Rites of Spring" by Tchaikovsky. Robert Plant, for a while, used This Mortal Coil's rendition of "Song To The Siren." U2 used to employ Clannad's haunting "Theme To Harry's Game." The Police, I believe, used to use the theme song to "The Muppet Show." Were I ever in a band, I'd use this track, David Shire's theme to "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three."
Not only is it from one of my favorite films of all time and one of the greatest films depicting New York City in all it's gritty, early-70s grime (featuring the late, great Robert Shaw in arguably his most ass-whuppin' role),but also ..... BADASS TUBAS!
I love the orginial film. Scary thought, they are considering or are in negotiations for a remake with John Travolta! Yikes.

People keep coming up to me and telling me this. "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" -- much like the original "Planet of The Apes" -- is a film that sorely does not need "re-imagining," least of all by a creepy Sc*entol*gist.

Yep, these re-imagining films have got to stop. Sad thing is these new versions gross more than the originals sometimes-that's why they keep making them. Best Travolta film was 'Blow Out', he should have stopped there.

"We are going to kill one passenger a minute until New York City pays us 1 million dollars!"--- Classic movie poster line!

Recently saw the film and loved it. Very stylish, very simple and very much of it's time. Love the blog by the way.
