It's a funny old world, isn't it? Remember how I said in that last post that I was "busier than any sentient earthling has a need to be"? Well, now -- not really quite so much. I'm reminded of an old bit on Bobcat Goldthwait's presumably long-out-of-print album from 1988, Meat Bob. "I lost my job," he says. "Well, technically, I didn't really lose my job -- I mean, I knew where my job still was. It's just that when I went there, there was this new guy doin' it."
That isn't quite my story, but it sort've feels like it. Due to some restructuring within the organization, they are phasing out the position that I've held for the past year and a half. I'm not fired, but rather the job itself will soon cease to exist. As such, while I'm being taken care of via severance/compensation and all that, I will no longer be working there.
As you can imagine, I'm still a bit shell shocked, and am quite frankly heartbroken. I've already doubled my efforts to get situated somewhere else, but -- to quote John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band (and if I ever do this again, please kill me) -- "Things Are Tough All Over."
That's my news. Meanwhile, I hope you're all having a happy 4th.
