Heard a rumor from my nextdoor neighbors, Bruce & David (and, seriously, those dudes are never wrong) that TLA Video on W.8th Street is closing. (yet another reason to avoid this once hallowed strip of Greenwich Village). TLA is housed in the same complex that plays host to Hendrix's fabled Electric Ladyland Studios. I feel slightly complicit, as the wife and I just recently joined the hive and subscribed to Netflix, but TLA was indespensible for stocking out-of-print, hard-to-find cult classics and esoteric foreign films galore. It was simply a great, great store staffed by cool, knowledgable folks. And I gravely rue its departure.
They'll probably turn it into a fuckin' Jamba Juice.
shame to hear about your local video rental place.
wanna be Netflix friends?

TLA? No! I'd like to say I often rented cult classics and esoteric foreign films there, but that's not true. Still, they treat you well, no matter what questionable films you want. I am sad. Bruce and David, say it ain't so!

As a former employee, I'm amazed that this didn't happen much sooner. Forgive yourself though: this has way less to do with Netflix than corporate malfeasance and general bad decision-making.
