As I've mentioned here in the past, I should thank my lucky stars that I managed to extricate myself from TIME Magazine when I did, as the axe fell again today, effectively destroying my old department, the Newsdesk, in the process. My close comrades and dear friends of over a decade are now all basically out of their jobs. How the magazine plans to survive -- let alone maintain both its sterling legacy and journalistic integrity -- without the aid of the tireless Newsdesk is a complete mystery. I'd wish them well in their new direction, but I'm much more concerned with the well-being of my fallen friends who -- quite frankly -- deserved much better than what they were meted out.
