…or things that caught my eye today, elsewhere on the `net.
In no real order....

*"I'd rather poo in my mum's Sunday Roast than have Danger Mouse produce a Portishead record, no offence like." So sayeth Portishead manstermind, Geoff Barrow, eloquently expressing his paucity of enthusiasm for the idea of collaborating with the celebrated producer of the moment. I used to be a sizable fan of Portishead's debut LP, Dummy, but I can't help thinking that said record's melancholy torch songs and noirish Trip Hop (arguably the blueprint thereof) haven't aged with any semblance of grace. Moreover, their follow up eponymous album didn't do much to blur the impression that they were simply a one-trick pony, albeit a darkly enigmatic one. In any case, for making such a gloriously scatalogical denouncement, Geoff Barrow earns a salute from Flaming Pablum. Incidentally, this contentious bit of info came from a recent installment of For the Record (lovingly compiled and whipped into shape by the fabulous Jane) over at the Job.

*Lastly, it is with profound sadness that I report that evidently character actor Bruno Kirby has passed away from Leukemia. Hats off to Bruno.
You may remember Bruno from his roles in "This is Spinal Tap," "City Slickers," "Good Morning, Vietnam," "When Harry Met Sally," "Donnie Brasco," "The Basketball Diaries" and -- according to IMDB -- Wililam Friedkin's "Cruisin'," wherein Kirby played a "man greasing up his fist in a club."
