This one really threw me. It seems that last week, former singer/guitarist, Bryan Harvey of the duo, House of Freaks, was murdered, along with his family (including his two daughters, ages 4 and 9, for God's sakes) in their home as the result of a botched burglary (click on link for grizzly details).
House of Freaks never made a tremendous splash, but I was quite a fan of their 1991 album, Cakewalk, and also enjoyed Harvey's work with Steve Wynn's project, Gutterball (both that HoF album and the eponymous Gutterball debut are sadly out of print, but well worth seeking out). I saw Gutterball play at long lost Tramp's back in the 90's, and managed to catch a fleeting House of Freaks show at the Mercury Lounge (with ex-Love Tractor member, Armistead Wellford, the brother of one of my then-coworkers, on bass) some time after that. After that, they sort've vanished.
In any case, it's a bizarre, horrific tragedy. You can also find out more on this site.
