In further honor of the great man's 71st birthday, I thought I'd finally post this quasi-obscure Lou Reed compilation's cover and put it to you -- dear reader -- to name the location. It's obviously somewhere in NYC, but where? Full disclosure: I have no idea, but maybe you do? Let's figure it out. I have some theories on it, but no facts as yet. Get to work.
Secondly, take a moment to bask in the glory of Gothamist's 21 Ridiculously Great Pictures of Lou Reed.
Thirdly, take a moment to read my windy paean to Lou's Take No Prisoners live album.
Lastly, it's a video I've put up here a few times before, and it's pretty safe to say that it's NO ONE's favorite Lou Reed song, but I still love it for its depiction of mid-80's TriBeCa. And, it's amusing to see Lou Reed, arguably the coolest man alive, being so patently uncool. Enjoy.
Goddamnit, that was gonna be my next photo-challenge for you! I have a lot of fond memories of that album (cassette for me, actually), nervously listening to it as I drove to hook up with a chick I briefly met at a bar...who turned out to be a dude! Ironic, huh?!
As for Original Wrapper, it's Lou pathetically chasing trends. I say "pathetic" because he was not only begging for a hit, but he was really bad in his attempts to. The music (and video) production was the worst the 80s had to offer. Did I mention Fernando Saunders is inarguably his worst studio bassist...ever?!
If you can find his SNL appearance (with Sam Kinnison as host), watch him "get into" his Original Wrapper performance. UGH.
