Burning Flags Press The website of Glen E. Friedman. Renowned for both his work with musicians like Fugazi, Minor Threat, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, Slayer (and many, many more) as well as his groundbreaking documentation of the burgeoning skateboard phenomenon in the late `70's, Glen has been privvy to (and has summarily captured on film) some of the coolest stuff ever. He's also an incredibly insightful and nice guy to boot.
SoHo Blues - Photography by Allan Tannenbaum Allan Tannenbaum is a local photographer who has been everywhere and shot everything, from members of Blondie hanging out at the Mudd Club through the collapsing towers of the World Trade Center on September 11th. You could spend hours on this site, and I have.
Robert Otter Photographs Amazing vintage photographs of New York City, specifically my own neighborhood, Greenwich Village.
oboylephoto Just some intensely cool photographs of abandoned places.
Rikki Ercoli's Legends of Punk Much like Glen E. Friedman (see above), Rikki Ercoli has managed to catch some amazing bands in their manic element.
Lost & Found Film A fascinating website devoted to undeveloped film found in vintage camers. A curious mixture of interesting and spooky.
Eugene Merinov Compelling shots of Punk, Post-Punk and New Wave band performing live in various long-lost venues in a pre-sanitized New York City. Great stuff!
Homestar Runner.Com Hugely entertaining or insufferably dumb, depending on your sensibility.
The Weblog of Spumco's John K. The weblog of cartoonist John Kricfalusi, crazed mind and frantic pencil behind the original "Ren & Stimpy," as well as "The Goddamn George Liquor Show." Surreal, unapologetic, uncompromising genius.
Like many New Yorkers, I’ve documented a lot of this past week in photographs. Honestly speaking, however, by this point in the proceedings, I’m pretty fucking sick of it all (as I’m sure you are too). Given my knee-jerk bitch-&-moan reflex (let’s face it, what is this blog other than one long, seven-year complaint?), I’m really trying to keep myself in check. Sure, it’s really sucked having no power, no hot water, no heat in our apartment, no phone signal and no school for our kids (we’re all a little stir-crazy or, to use a Britishism my wife is fond of utilizing, “woodsqueer”), but we’re all ultimately safe and sound. The same cannot be said for large swathes of New Jersey, Staten Island, the Rockaways and elsewhere. I try to keep that in mind before I start whining about my comparatively paltry problems.
In any event, while everyone is sick and tired of that bitch Sandy, I thought I’d pass on this telling time-lapse video from Monday night. Relive the bummer at 1:02 when the lights go out.
Like I said in the previous post, walking around a neighborhood plunged into absolute darkness on Monday night was indeed eerie and otherworldly. Five days later, the mystique of that experience has truly worn off, and I’m hugely fucking sick of it. That said, the photographs of that very experience on this post by Animal NY really capture the vibe quite well.
Here’s to everyone recovering from the friggin’ nightmare and moving forward.

Glad you and the family are OK. I've trekked to Brooklyn every day to use the laptop and cell phone...yes, mom, I'm fine...it's a long walk from the East Village.
We're not a lucky as the people uptown, but we're pretty damn lucky compared to a lot of people. I'm a bitch and moaner, too, but right now, I'm feeling just lucky.
