For those of you in the New York area who thrill to photographs of vintage Punk, Post-Punk and New Wave, I strongly suggest checking out noted photographer Eugene Merinov's show currently up at Etherea (one of the East Village's last remaining music shops) at 66 Avenue A between 4th & 5th streets. Merinov's photos will be up until December 12th, but you can also view the man's work here on his website, and you can even buy prints. Much like fellow photogs Glen E. Friedman, Bob Gruen and Godlis, Merinov managed to capture the images of various crucial bands in their early periods (check out the shots of a very young and green Bauhaus at Tier 3 in 1981 and XTC at CBGB!) and a brief, fleeting taste of a pre-santized New York City.

Thanks for the mention Alex.

It's amazing how many bands did play at CBGB. Also, check out the new Spin issue, it gives an introspective look (plus some interviews) at those early punk years, mostly of 1977.
